Premier League trio 'monitoring' Andreas Christensen amid uncertain Barcelona future
Barcelona could consider offers for centre-back Andreas Christensen, a report in Spain has claimed, with Premier League trio Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur all interested in the Dane.
Despite public confidence from president Joan Laporta, Barcelona have not managed to lower their salary enough to pull off the transfer business they wanted. New signing Dani Olmo cannot yet be signed with La Liga, even after Ilkay Gundogan's departure to Manchester City.
According to SPORT, Barcelona are now considering offloading either Christensen or fellow centre-back Eric Garcia, and there is plenty of interest in the former.
Newcastle are long-term admirers of Christensen but the report claims that both United and Tottenham are keeping a close eye on the situation in the hope that the Denmark international softens his stance on a summer transfer.
Christensen would prefer to stay with Barcelona but recognises that he may struggle for minutes in his preferred position of centre-back.
Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez are seen as core squad players, while there are also plans to sign a new right-back and return Jules Kounde to the centre of defence. There would then only be room in the squad for one of Christensen or Garcia.
Barcelona would entertain offers of around €25m (£21.2m) for Christensen, whose sale would be particularly valuable as any money raised would be pure profit on a player who joined on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.
Christensen could be a valuable asset to sides in the Premier League because of his status as a homegrown player. The defender joined Chelsea as a 16-year-old and was part of the Blues setup for long enough to earn homegrown status.
