Premier League trio including Champions League club consider season-long loan for 31-appearance outcast

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is subject to transfer interest from a trio of Premier League clubs this summer.

The 28-year-old expected to leave Manchester City for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, having made just two starts and 10 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side during the recently concluded 2023/24 season.

Phillips, who moved to Manchester City for £42 million in July 2022, has been an unused substitute on 45 occasions for the Sky Blues, and subsequently switched to West Ham for a short-term loan in January.

The Englishman made 10 appearances during his time at the London Stadium, featuring in eight Premier League matches and two UEFA Europa League games for David Moyes’ side, but was the subject of an angered incident with Hammers supporters outside St James’ Park.

Phillips was pictured swearing at fans upon boarding the West Ham bus on Tyneside, with the midfielder having conceded a penalty during the Hammers’ dramatic 4-3 loss to Newcastle in the Premier League in March.

The midfielder was forced to return to the Etihad Stadium due to a hamstring injury in May, but was awarded a Premier League medal following the Blues’ latest Premier League title triumph.

The 28-year-old has won six trophies since signing for Manchester City, including the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Phillips could be forced to travel with Manchester City for their upcoming four-match tour of the United States, although three Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing the midfielder on loan for the 2024/25 season.

Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle United are all targeting the 28-year-old according to the Daily Star newspaper, however the midfielder is in ‘no rush’ to make a decision on his next steps.

Etihad bosses are claimed to have informed Phillips that they would be willing to sanction another loan move for the midfielder, despite previous suggestions that Manchester City could look to sell the England international this summer.

Manchester City are due to play Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea during an upcoming tour of the USA later this month, as Guardiola’s side begin preparations for the start of the new campaign.

Joao Cancelo, who hasn’t played for the Sky Blues competitively since January 2023, could also join the pre-season tour should the full-back’s future not be resolved.
