Premier League target Albert Grønbæk hands in Rennes transfer request
Rennes midfielder Albert Grønbæk (23) has handed in a transfer request to leave the Ligue 1 side during the winter window, head coach Jorge Sampaoli has confirmed this Friday. Speaking for his pre-game press conference with Stade Rennais hosting bitter Brittany rivals Stade Brestois 29 this Saturday, the Argentine manager said that the Denmark international is looking for a way out only six months after his €12m arrival from Bodø/Glimt. “It is more of a personal decision on his part. He expressed his desire to leave the club. He hasn’t really found his place here, he’s not happy”, Sampaoli said.
Grønbæk has struggled to adjust to life in France. He only registered two goals and assists during his 18 appearances for the Ligue 1 club. Foot Mercato reported that Bundesliga and Premier League clubs are monitoring Grønbæk’s situation. Grønbæk was one of four senior Rennes players axed from Sampaoli’s squad alongside goalkeeper Gauthier Gallon as well as midfielders Glen Kamara and Baptiste Santamaria.
Rennes marquee signing Jota, who was previously reported as being put in Rennes’ loft, is eventually injured with a hamstring strain.
