The opening weekend of the Premier League season already saw several records broken with Brighton’s 3-0 win at Everton seeing a trio records tumble.

Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler became the youngest permanent head coach in Premier League history, while James Milner – seven years his manager’s senior – became the first player to feature in 23 different seasons.

It was a bad day for Everton, however, who saw Ashley Young – somewhat ironically – become the oldest player sent off in the division, at 39 years and 39 days.

Elsewhere, Mohamed Salah continued his habit of starting the Premier League campaign with a bang. The Egyptian has scored or assisted in each of his opening-day games for Liverpool since arriving from Roma in 2017. He scored his ninth opening-day goal against Ipswich this weekend, setting a new record.

Following a record-breaking start to the season we’ve looked at some other milestones that could fall in 2024/25.

Premier League records that could be broken in 2024/25:

Most ever Premier League appearances

James Milner’s record-breaking 23rd Premier League season might not be the only record the evergreen Brighton midfielder claims this season.

The 38-year-old, who made his Premier League debut for Leeds when current Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler was just nine years old, currently sits on 635 top-flight appearances. He’s just 18 behind current record holder Gareth Barry and capable of passing his former Manchester City teammate this season.

Most Premier League free-kicks

David Beckham is perhaps the first player that comes to mind when remembering free-kick experts – and with good reason. The former Manchester United midfielder scored 18 free-kicks in the Premier League, which remains a record more than two decades after his departure for Real Madrid.

However, West Ham’s James Ward-Prowse ranks right behind Beckham (17) and could overhaul the ex-England captain this season. He’s yet to score a free-kick since his move to West Ham from Southampton last summer.

Longest unbeaten run (player)

Rodri’s remarkable record without losing in a Manchester City shirt has been well documented, with the Spaniard absent for all three of the Citizens defeats in the Premier League last season.

You have to go all the way back to February 5th 2023 for the last time Rodri lost a Premier League game, when Pep Guardiola’s team were beaten 1-0 at Tottenham. Rodri has now gone 50 league games without losing for City and has Sol Campbell’s record (56) in his sights.

Most PFA Player of the Year awards

The PFA Player of the Year award is perhaps the ultimate individual recognition, as top-flight professionals vote for the finest footballer in the division. It doesn’t come much bigger than acknowledgement from your peers and opponents.

Just seven players have ever won the PFA Player of the Year award twice. Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Mohamed Salah and Kevin DE Bruyne are all two-time winners. Salah and De Bruyne each have the potential to achieve the first three-peat in 2024/25.
