Premier League clubs circling new England international
Angel Gomes is attracting interest from Premier League clubs as the midfielder approaches the end of his contract at Lille.
Gomes made his England debut during September’s international break as Lee Carsley handed a first appearance to a player he knows well from the u-21 set-up.
The 24-year-old impressed on his first start for the Three Lions against Finland and his performances have not gone unnoticed at Premier League clubs.
“He absolutely loves football. He watches football, he’s interested in tactics, he knows all the player in any league,” England interim manager Lee Carsley said on Gomes earlier this month.
“If you ask him for any feedback you need to be prepared that he is going to give you some feedback on the session or how we’re going to build up, or the positions.
“He’ll help in terms of he will often say about some build-ups that he’s done at other clubs or what he’s played against, because obviously he’s playing in France so he sees different things.
“He fully deserves it (his call-up).”
‘Champions League clubs’ chasing Angel Gomes
Gomes will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with English teams in January and could return to the Premier League after leaving Manchester United for France in 2020.
The Telegraph claim several English teams, including Champions League clubs, are considering approaches for the midfielder, who was the joint-leading assist provider in Ligue 1 last season.
Gomes has made 121 appearances for Lille in all competitions, scoring eight goals.
