Premier League boost as Bayern Munich make €100m transfer decision
Bayern Munich are not prioritising the addition of a striker and instead focusing their efforts on signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen next summer.
The German side have been heavily linked with rivalling Premier League clubs in the bidding to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon and Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush.
Gyokeres is a leading transfer target for top European sides after a stunning 18 months at Sporting Lisbon, where the Swedish striker has cored 67 goals in 69 appearances. Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with the 26-year-old, who has a €100m release clause at the Portuguese champions.
Marmoush has also attracted interest from England. The Egypt international has 11 goals and seven assists in 11 Bundesliga games for Frankfurt, following an explosive start to the campaign. Liverpool have been named as potential suitors and English sides interested in the forwards have been handed a boost.
Though Bayern are monitoring the situations of the duo, the signing of Wirtz is the focus. Sky Germany are reporting that Bayern plan to spend their budget on bringing in the €100m-rated midfielder from Bundesliga rivals Leverkusen.
Lille forward Jonathan David is understood to be of greater interest to Bayern than either Gyokeres or Marmoush. The Canadian is out of contract in the summer and likely to leave Lille as a free agent.
Bayern are interested in a potential deal for the 24-year-old amid doubts surrounding the future of Mathys Tel, who is keen to leave in search of regular first-team football. David has scored 97 goals in 2023 appearances for the French side in all competitions and is Canada’s record scorer at international level.
