Predicting Team MVPs For The 2024-25 WHL Season: Central Division
The East Division is stacked with plenty of talent on all six teams. While there has been some shuffling as players departed the WHL for the pros, there are still quite a few game-breakers who should be able to dominate in 2024-25. With this in mind, here is an early projection of who will be each East Division's team MVP by the end of the season.
Brandon Wheat Kings- Roger McQueen
McQueen, a projected first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, looks to build his stock heading into next summer. This could very well be the season he grows into his 6'5" frame even more and records his first point per game season in the WHL.
Moose Jaw Warriors- Brayden Yager
Fresh off a Memorial Cup appearance, Yager will be a staple of the Warriors forward corps this upcoming season. With several other members graduating to the big leagues, the newly traded Winnipeg Jets prospect will be leaned on heavily for a large portion of the year and may be expected to recreate his 95-point campaign from just one season ago.
Prince Albert Raiders- Lukas Dragicevic
New faces in new places, "Drago" comes to the Raiders from the Tri-City Americans due to an offseason trade and immediately becomes one of Prince Albert's most important players. While his production had a fairly significant dip in 2023-24, Dragicevic does bring in three games of AHL experience with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. The Seattle Kraken prospect will be one to watch throughout the year.
Regina Pats- Tanner Howe
Despite losing running mate Connor Bedard to the NHL, Tanner Howe has proven he can still hang with the best of them. The Pats forward and Pittsburgh Penguins will return for a fourth full season, and second while donning the captaincy. Similar to Dragicevic, his production did take a hit last season, but other parts of his game more than make up for that.
Saskatoon Blades- Evan Gardner
It's not too often goaltenders get recognized as MVPs, but Gardner certainly has a case. Sporting a .927 save percentage through 30 regular season games is an impressive feat, as well as a .910 through 15 playoff games. The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect is ready to return to the Blades crease and backstop his team to another deep playoff run.
