Predicted Manchester United lineup vs Liverpool: Amorim to rectify midfield blunder
Amidst the club’s miserable run, the last thing Manchester United would have cherished at this point was a trip to Anfield.
And yet, here we are. The Red Devils will be looking to halt their free fall and put an end to their four-match losing streak when they take on their arch-rivals who also happen to be the league’s runaway leaders.
While this sounds like a tall order for Ruben Amorim’s broken band, they have little choice but to fight at this stage, with the manager himself ringing the relegation alarm bells.
So how will the Portuguese tactician line up for this untimely away fixture?
Well, he will definitely start by ringing the changes to the middle of the park after watching Christian Eriksen and Casemiro being easily overrun by their Newcastle counterparts on Monday which prompted Kobbie Mainoo’s introduction to stead the ship.
Therefore, the two veteran midfielders are unlikely to start a big contest anytime soon, and surely not side-by-side. Instead, the young Englishman should regain his berth alongside Manuel Ugarte who returns from suspension.
Man United set for midfield overhaul vs Liverpool
Bruno Fernandes’ absence was also heavily felt the last time out, so the captain will reclaim his spot in the hole, with Amad Diallo to his right, while Rasmus Hojlund remains the solitary choice to lead the line since Marcus Rashford is ill (and it wasn’t like he was set to play anyway) and Joshua Zirkzee is coming off a nightmarish scenario on his last outing.
Elsewhere, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui remain the main options for the wingback slots, as Amorim is unlikely to opt for more attacking choices against Liverpool’s well-oiled machine, while Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez should constitute the backline.
Man Utd predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez; Mazraoui, Mainoo, Ugarte, Mazraoui; Amad, Fernandes; Hojlund.
