Predators' prospect Cody Glass gets emotional after making team out of camp

At this time of year in the NHL, there's plenty of focus on players who get cut from their respective teams and the difficult process they are forced to go through.

On Tuesday, however, we as fans got to see the other side of things.

Since being selected sixth-overall back in 2017, Cody Glass’ career hasn’t exactly gone as he had hoped. The now 23-year-old has taken longer to develop than most highly-touted prospects, with a concussion sustained in 2019-20 seriously hampering his development.

Glass was traded by the Vegas Golden Knights to the Nashville Predators last offseason, with the hopes that he can revive his career in a new environment. That said, he was able to take some big strides in the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2021-22, and was recently rewarded for that in a big way.

In a video making its way around social media, Glass gets called in for a meeting with Predators' general manager David Poile and head coach John Hynes. You can see the nerves oozing out of the young forward, as he was unsure what news he was going to be given. After making the trip to Bern, Switzerland with his Predators teammates to kick off their regular season in Europe, he was informed that he will be sticking with the big club out of camp.

Given the struggles he has been through in his young career, you could see just how much it meant, as he was overcome with emotion after being given the news.

Despite some tough times, he stuck with it and continued to put in the work, something he made clear to Poile in the clip shown above. Now, of course, he will need to continue with that effort to show he belongs in the NHL.

If his 14 goals and 62 points in 66 AHL outings last season are any indication, he should be just fine.
