Predators Prospect Andrew Gibson Traded in Massive OHL Deal
On Tuesday, it was announced that Nashville Predators defense prospect Andrew Gibson was traded by the OHL Soo Greyhounds to the Oshawa Generals in exchange for forward Brady Smith, a 2027 second-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick, a 2026 fourth-round pick, two 2027 fourth-round picks, a 2027 sixth-round pick, a 2028 sixth-round pick, and a 2028 seventh-round pick.
Gibson, 19, had been with the Greyhounds since 2022, scoring 23 goals, 49 assists, and 72 points in his 145 regular season games there. It became apparent during the 2025 World Junior Championships that the Canadian rearguard was set to be traded upon the tournament's conclusion.
This is not Gibson's first time being traded, either; the Predators acquired Gibson from the Detroit Red Wings on June 25 in exchange for forward Jesse Kiiskinen and a 2024 second-round pick.
During his time with Canada at World Juniors, Gibson played alongside fellow Predators defense prospect Tanner Molendyk, who was traded by Saskatoon to Medicine Hat in a blockbuster WHL trade on Monday.
Gibson and Molendyk will each turn 20 next month, subsequently allowing them to turn pro before the end of the 2024-25 season.
Before that happens, the two defensemen will help their new CHL teams' playoff and championship pushes as their last hurrah in junior hockey.
