Lavoie had an interesting and unique training camp. He signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Edmonton Oilers in the offseason and was placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the Bakersfield Condors during pre-season. The Golden Knights placed a successful claim on Lavoie and tried to send him down to the Henderson Silver Knights through waivers.
They needed to use waivers because another team who finished higher in the standings placed a claim on him. While on waivers, the Oilers reclaimed Lavoie but once again, another team placed a claim on him. The Oilers tried one final time to place Lavoie on waivers and the Golden Knights placed another claim. The back-and-forth saga finally ended as no other team put a claim on Lavoie, allowing the Golden Knights to send him to the AHL without waivers.

The 24-year-old has scored nine goals and 16 points in 29 games with the Silver Knights and has earned his first call-up of his Golden Knights career. His time with the Oilers only saw him get into seven NHL games and he failed to record points in any of them. Tonight he'll play alongside Jonas Rondbjerg and Brett Howden on the fourth line against a deep Stars roster. He'll be replacing Alexander Holtz whose struggles to make an impact have continued.
Lines and pairs, and it looks like Lavoie will make his Golden Knights debut tonight:

With William Karlsson and Cole Schwindt out with injuries, available NHL roster spots have opened and HC Bruce Cassidy is still searching for the best fit. Rondbjerg, Brendan Brisson, Tanner Laczysnki, Mason Morelli, Cal Burke and Grigori Denisenko have all had opportunities with the Golden Knights and it's now Lavoie's turn.
