Potential Sabres Target Linked to Maple Leafs

The Buffalo Sabres bolstered their bottom six this offseason, adding Jason Zucker, Sam Lafferty, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Ryan McLeod, and Beck Malenstyn. While this is the case, they still could use one more skilled winger in their lineup before the start of the season.

Because of this, Max Pacioretty is one free agent who has been discussed as a potential bargain addition for the Sabres. He would give them another skilled option in their top nine, but the veteran forward is generating interest from other clubs. One specific team interested in Pacioretty just so happens to be one of the Maple Leafs' biggest rivals.

According to The Nation Network's Nick Alberga, the Toronto Maple Leafs are one of Pacioretty's primary suitors.

The Maple Leafs have been looking to strengthen their depth at the left wing position, so it is understandable that they are interested in Pacioretty. He is among the top players still available in the free-agent market at this point of the summer and would give their lineup a bit of a boost.

However, while Pacioretty is garnering interest from Toronto and other clubs, the Sabres should consider entering the mix. If the Sabres landed him, he would have the potential to be a strong addition to their second or third line and power play. In addition, the former Montreal Canadiens captain would give them another veteran to help mentor the Sabres' young players.

Pacioretty, 35, appeared in 47 games this past season with the Washington Capitals, recording four goals and 23 points.
