Postecoglou takes responsibility as Spurs lose at Everton
Ange Postecoglou held himself responsible for Tottenham’s woeful league campaign after they were beaten by David Moyes’ Everton.
The Toffees raced into a three-goal lead at half time, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin opening the scoring before goals from Iliman Ndiaye and an Archie Gray own goal put the hosts in control. Spurs pulled two goals back late on in the second period but it was not enough to prevent defeat. The North Londoners have now lost five of their last six in the Premier League.
Another damning defeat piles the pressure on Postecoglou, who didn’t shirk any of the blame shortly after the loss.
"I haven't lost any belief or determination to turn it around" 💪

“I still believe the responsibility lies with me to get things right. If I start worrying about myself and the cards I’ve been dealt that’s the wrong thing to do.
“It’s up to me to get us out of this, I’ve got to be good enough to do that.”
The Tottenham manager opted to change his system in the first half as Postecoglou deployed a back five, which did not have the desired effect.
“It’s down to me, I changed the team and structure.
“I have 11 fit players, so I was trying to find a way to fit the ones we have into a structure that worked for everyone.”
The Spurs manager was quick to remind everyone of the significant injuries he is dealing with and remains positive that their eventual return will yield more positivity.
“It’s is a pretty extreme situation,” Postecoglou declared.
“Eventually our players will come back, and we have significant talent out injured at the moment.
“We all have great motivation to get through this and wait until those players come back.”
The Australian tactician also shed light on the latest injury updates in his squad, including the severity of Dominic Solanke’s and Brennan Johnson’s issues.
“Dom twisted his knee in training. I don’t think [the injury] is serious, but it should be a few weeks at least.
“Brennan looks like will be out 3-4 weeks with a calf injury. He felt his calf in the second half against Arsenal.
“Bissouma has a knock and hopefully he will be right by next week.
“No one else is due to come back apart from Rodrigo Bentancur who is close to completing the concussion protocols.”
Inevitably, the injury crisis and catastrophic league position have conjured up more questions about incomings in the transfer market. Postecoglou remained adamant that transfer business isn’t his main priority.
“There is nothing imminent. For me to focus on anything else is abstaining myself from my responsibility. It was pretty evident before today that we needed reinforcements.”
