Post-match reaction: Elena Sadiku and Maria McAneny
Celtic FC Women climbed to second in the league table on Wednesday night as the Ghirls ran out 6-0 winners over Queen’s Park.
The Hoops are now just behind Glasgow City on goal difference at the top of the SWPL table
Travelling to Stenhousemuir, Elena Sadiku’s side made their first away trip of 2025 in their second of two rescheduled fixtures from earlier in the campaign. And the Celts put in a strong performance to deliver their first points on the road of the year.
Celtic Head Coach, Elena Sadiku and one of the goalscorers, Maria McAneny gave their reaction to Celtic TV after the game.
ELENA SADIKU
'Obviously, the most important thing was to get the win. We also said before the game that we wanted to score goals. I don’t think the score actually reflects how the game went and we could have scored more. That is something we have been working on.
'But overall, I think we played an attacking style of play, and we created chance after chance. So there was many good things that we can take with us, but obviously we want to do more too.
'The most important thing was to get the three points so that we can step up the table, and that is what we have done. Now our focus is on another important game on Sunday against Glasgow Cup in the Scottish Cup.'
Maria McAneny
'It was a good performance from the girls. A midweek game can be tough, considering the number of games that we have had, so it was a really positive night overall, and we’re happy with that.
'All the girls have got that ability to score goals. I think we’ve all got that across the pitch and we're a team that everyone plays their part. I think we’ve had a few games like that, such as Dundee United at the start of the season. We’ve got that in our team, and it was great to see that again in this game.'
