Poll: Who should be the Miami Herald’s high school Athlete of the Week? (Sept. 9)

South Florida’s top athletes shined once again last week in the sports of volleyball, golf, cross-country, swimming, and bowling.

This week, we continue a feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in those sports in Miami-Dade and Broward.

Below is a look at the candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Sept. 12, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Samira Persad, Reagan, girls’ volleyball: Persad helped the Bison improve to 6-0 with a 3-set victory over Krop 25-16, 25-22, 25-15 as she finished with 23 kills and 17 digs.

Samantha McMillan, Coral Springs Charter, girls’ volleyball: McMillan totaled 24 kills and two blocks as the Panthers beat NSU University School in three sets.

Lorenzo Rodriguez, Belen, boys’ golf: Rodriguez, the 2023 Class 2A state champion, was the individual champion with a 3-under 69 to lead Belen to the AMDG Cup at Mission Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, home of the FHSAA State Golf Championships.

Poll: Who should be the Miami Herald’s high school football Player of the Week? (Sept. 9)

Sara Davey, Westminster Academy, girls’ golf: Davey fired a 36 to take medalist honors against Cardinal Gibbons and Pompano Beach.

Orlando Hoyos, Columbus bowling: Hoyos bowled a 229 high game and 587 high series to lead the Explorers to a win over Hialeah.

Sebastian Sanchez, Northeast, boys’ swimming and diving: Even though South Broward beat Northeast, Sanchez won two events - the 200 free in 2:08.23 and the 100 fly in 1:02.10.
