Poll: Who should be the Miami Herald’s High School Athlete of the Week? (Sept. 30)

South Florida’s top athletes were recognized last week in the sports of bowling, golf and volleyball.

This week, we continue a feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week from bowling, cross-country, golf and volleyball in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Oct. 3, around 10 p.m. You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates:

Grace Aldrich, Miami Carrollton cross-country: the senior won the Spanish River Invitational, finishing first of 282 runners in 18:41.30 while leading the Cyclones to the girls’ 1A-2A team championship. She also won the Youth Fair Invitational.

Jason Norona, Coral Gables, cross-country: A junior who ran a time of 17:26.20 to win the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair Invitational boys’ title.

Remi Bacardi, Miami Palmer Trinity golf: shot 67 to win the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair Girls’ Golf Invitational (for the fourth time) at Country Club of Miami.

Joselyn Reyes-Clark, Miami Krop bowling: had a high game 175 and high series 496 for undefeated Krop in a win over Reagan.

Poll: Who should be the Miami Herald’s high school football Player of the Week? (Sept. 30)

Shynah Collins, Fort Lauderdale Dillard cross-country: an eighth grader, she won the individual title, besting 275 runners in 18:33.10 at the Spanish River Invitational. She helped the Panthers finish second in the girls’ 3A-4A division.

Armando Cruz, Miami Belen Jesuit cross-country: the sophomore was second of 348 runners in 15:36 at the Spanish River Invitational. With their top 3 runners not competing, Cruz stepped up to lead the Wolverines to the team title in the boys’ 3A-4A division.

Sasha Kawas, Miami Divine Savior volleyball: totaled 49 kills, 27 digs and 4 aces as the Sharks (11-2) won the Estero Wildcat Invitational in Estero. Divine Savior won 10 of 11 sets, beating Port Charlotte, Naples Palmetto Ridge, Estero, Naples First Baptist Academy and Naples Barron Collier.

Jonathan Pena, Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy cross-country: the senior was runner-up of 338 runners in 16:02.40 at the Spanish River Invitational. He helped lead the Lions to the boys’ 1A-2A team championship.

Samira Persad, Miami Reagan volleyball: had 13 kills, 27 digs, 18 serve receive, 6 aces, 1 block and 1 assist in a five-set victory over ATM.

Riley Prescott, Miami Gulliver Prep bowling: A junior and team captain, he earned the top bowler trophy at the Independent & Charter Schools Invitational. He followed up that winning effort by bowling a 530 high series against Pinecrest Glades.

Lorenzo Rodriguez, Miami Belen golf: scored 63 to win the Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition Boys’ Golf Invitational at Country Club of Miami. He also shot even par (70–72) to finish tied for fifth of 69 players at the South Florida PGA East High School Championship in Boca Raton.
