Justice Department takes on Ticketmaster and Live Nation

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Justice Department and 30 state and district attorneys have filed an antitrust lawsuit against Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation. Attorney General Merrick Garland says in a statement Live Nation relies on unlawful and anticompetitive practices to exert a monopoly over live events in the U-S It accuses Live Nation using long-term contracts to edge out rival tickets and blocking venues from using multiple ticket sellers. The Justice Department says Live Nation owns or controls more than 265 concert venues in North America and dozens of top amphitheatres. Live Nation says calling Ticketmaster a monopoly “may be a PR win for the DOJ in the short term, but it will lose in court because it ignores the basic economics of live entertainment.”

“Atlas” director used AI for movie about AI

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Director Brad Peyton acknowledges that artificial intelligence was the way to go for a plot point in his new movie “Atlas,” which is about A-I. Peyton says he wanted a completely inhuman voice when a mechanical suit turns on, so he used an A-I program for that. He says he’s not against dabbling in A-I, but he feels that art is “mainly a human endeavour.” “Atlas,” starring Jennifer Lopez as a data analyst trying to capture a renegade robot, premieres tomorrow on Netflix.

Gary Oldman says he's in a good place in life

CANNES, France (AP) – Gary Oldman plays writer John Cheever in a new movie called “Parthenope” (par-THEN’-oh-pee), which has a theme of longing for lost youth. Oldman does not have that longing. He says he’s more comfortable now that he was when he was younger. He says he’s marked 27 years of sobriety and he’s the happiest he’s ever been. “Parthenope” is about a woman who reminisces about her younger years in Naples. It debuted at the Cannes (CAN) Film Festival but does not yet have a release date.

Rolling Stones will close tour at new Ozarks venue

Tonight, The Rolling Stones will play MetLife Stadium outside New York, capacity 80-thousand. They will end their Hackney Diamonds tour at a new venue in the Ozarks with a capacity of just 18-thousand. On July 21st, The Rolling Stones will play the new Thunder Ridge Nature Arena outside Branson, Missouri. It was built by Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris, who wanted to create a concert space with views of the White River and Table Rock Reservoir while preserving the land around it. How did Morris land the Rolling Stones for that venue? Touring keyboardist Chuck Leavell (leh-VEL’) is a fishing buddy.

“Red, White and Royal Blue” will do sequel

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The stars of the sleeper hit movie “Red, White and Royal Blue” are grateful for the fan reaction to it – and that they get a sequel. Taylor Zakhar (zah-KAR’) Perez says when the movie came out on Amazon last year during the writers and actors strikes, they could not promote it. He says now they’re able to interact with fans, and it’s incredible hearing people laugh. Amazon says Perez and Nicholas Galitzine (GAL’-itz-een) will reprise their roles for another instalment of the story, about a British prince who has a secret romance with the son of an American president.

“The Voice” personalities head up “Red Nose Day” special

NEW YORK (AP) – The coaches and host of “The Voice” will lead tonight’s Red Nose Day special to raise money to fight childhood poverty. John Legend, Chance the Rapper, Reba McEntire, Dan and Shay and Carson Daly will lead the one-hour special “Red Nose Day: Cheers to Ten Years” on NBC. Since 2015, the Red Nose Day campaign through Comic Relief has raised 370-million-dollars for community food centres and local health care for children.
