‘The players have to meet expectations’ – Borussia Dortmund’s Nuri Şahin demands a reaction
Borussia Dortmund were on the end of a humiliating 5-1 defeat in Stuttgart last weekend and ahead of Friday’s Bundesliga derby against Bochum, Nuri Şahin demands a reaction from his players.
Already after the defeat, Şahin could see that his players were disappointed. “It was already there in the dressing room,” said Dortmund’s head coach. “When it came to processing, you have to have a critical core in the team, that’s the impression that I had.
“But the truth is always on the pitch, we have to show that we’re developing.
“That’s our job the players have to meet expectations.”
Borussia Dortmund already find themselves down in eighth, five points behind leaders Bayern Munich. And while Bochum sit joint bottom of the league and are winless, this won’t be an easy game for Die Schwarzgelben. Two of their last three Bundesliga meetings has ended in a 1-1 draw, although Dortmund have won their last two at the Westfalenstadion.
Speaking on the Bochum game, Şahin added: “We need a reaction. We are not building a house of cards that we will completely tear down after a defeat. Nevertheless, we must continue on our way. We must remain steadfast and try to win the game.”
Şahin also hinted that both Maximilian Beier and Julien Duranville could play some part in Friday’s game, while Gio Reyna, who was injured on international duty, isn’t too far away.
