Plano native helps U.S. men’s gymnastics win first team Olympic medal in over a decade
The U.S. Men’s Gymnastics team hadn’t earned a medal at the Summer Olympics since 2008 but changed that when it won bronze in the men’s team final thanks in part to Asher Hong, a Plano native.

Hong was joined on the podium by Paul Juda, Brody Malone, Stephen Nedoroscik and Frederick Richard.
Hong, 20, is the second youngest athlete on the bronze-medal-winning team and grew up in Tomball and worked out at Cypress Academy of Gymnastics before attending Stanford University.
The U.S. earned a score of 257.793. during the team final which was eclipsed only by silver medalist China’s score of 259.062 and gold medal winner Japan’s score of 259.594.

Hong and his teammates were emphatic throughout the team final cheering each other on vociferously while getting plenty of support from the crowd.
