The dog named “Cowboy” that attacked a woman in Columbus in March that resulted in her leg being amputated has been put down, according to an attorney for the city. Thomas Gristina.

The attack occurred on March 1 on Curtis street when Neighborworks Columbus COO Kim Golden was touring a house on Curtis Street in Columbus.

The dog proceeded to bite Golden’s leg which later caused her to have to undergo surgery to amputate part of her leg, according to testimony she gave in March.

“Cowboy” was ordered to be euthanized by Judge John Martin in an April 26 hearing where he found the dog seriously injured a human being and presented a danger to humans and wasn’t suitable for control, said attorney Thomas Gristina.

He was ordered to be put down on or after May 5 after which the dog would be cremated, according to a court document obtained by the Ledger-Enquirer.

Golden had detailed her ordeal in news interviews and court appearances.

“I saw parts of my body that shouldn’t be on the outside, on the outside,” Golden had said about her attack. She said she now has to the crawl up the stairs in her house in order to take a shower.

The dogs owners, Edward Murray and Jacqueline Crockett, defended their dog in court. Murray said the dog was “just protecting.”

“I find that Ms. Golden did nothing to provoke this attack,” said Judge John Martin during his ruling.
