While many contemporary NHL critics rate Igor Shesterkin the best of the big-league goalies, The Maven would like to introduce you to the worst regular season puck-stopper of all-time.
Although many would say that it was Steve Buzinksi (1942-43), who was nicknamed Steve Buzinski The Puck Goes Inski, Stevie Wonder only played a handful of games before being dropped.
Ah, but a season later – enter Ken McAuley. The Edmonton native played an entire 50-game (1943-44) schedule for the New Yorkers and concluded with a goals against average of 6.20.
To prove that those numbers are real; consider that in the same month, the goalie nicknamed "Tubby" was beaten 15-0 on January 23, 1944 by the Detroit Red Wings and 12-2 a week later, also by Detroit.
But here's the beauty part of the story. After Tubby's retirement he was inducted into the Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame!
