What phrase did Moyes leave 'hanging'?

Former Everton wingers Pat Nevin and Aaron Lennon spoke about David Moyes' return to the club on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily, following Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.

Nevin: "He's got a job to do and the job is to keep Everton in the Premier League. Everything else is completely secondary and it might not necessarily be particularly pretty.

"There's always a nugget somewhere [in every media interview] and the nugget in there for me [when Moyes was speaking to Radio 5 Live] was 'Aston Villa have invested hugely and very well'.

"He didn't actually say the phrase '... and we haven't' - but it's really hanging there.

"That's the problem for Everton just now, they haven't been able to spend enough on the squad for a couple of years, so he's going to have work with them and get every single thing out of them, and make sure at the end of the season there are three teams below them."

Lennon: "If they are going to stay in the division, they need to start creating more chances. How he's going to do it, I'm not quite sure. But he needs time.

"One thing David Moyes is going to bring - the Everton fans are going to be behind him and they're going to lift that place. For them to stay up, they need that place [Goodison Park] to be a fortress."
