Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto ejected for ... well, we're not sure what

J.T. Realmuto never knew what hit him. Or didn't hit him.

One moment, the Philadelphia Phillies catcher was reaching back for a new baseball and the next moment, he was being thrown out of the game.

It happened during the fourth inning of Monday's spring training game between the Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays after pitcher Craig Kimbrel had just been called for a pitch timer violation.

Realmuto settled back down in his crouch and held his glove up for a new baseball from home plate umpire Randy Rosenberg. With his back to the umpire, Realmuto paused for an instant and then moved his glove just as Rosenberg threw the ball into the ground.

Showing up the umpire will get a catcher ejected every time, but judging by his immediate reaction, Realmuto had no idea what had happened behind him.

The three-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove award winner had just returned to the Phillies after being part of Team USA's run to the World Baseball Classic championship game.
