Liverpool are putting their players through preseason fitness tests and Mohamed Salah has been called ‘phenomenal’ for his efforts.

Liverpool have their new coaching staff in place and preseason is firmly underway. Of course, the squad remains light after the two international tournaments this summer but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of stars working with Arne Slot and co.

The coaches are currently putting players through their paces - fitness tests, in other words - as they learn exactly what this squad can do. One player, in particular, has now been labelled ‘phenomenal’ for his efforts.

That’s Mohamed Salah, which won’t come as any great surprise. He performed the Six-minute race test with the rest of the players, which sees how much distance someone can cover over six minutes.

Salah, as it turns out, covered more than anyone. It led first-team fitness coach Conall Murtagh to call him ‘phenomenal’, per the Athletic, as he knocked Sepp van den Berg into second place on the leaderboard.

Mo Salah impresses in preseason

It’s a coach’s dream to have arguably your best player also put up the best fitness numbers. Salah works as hard as anyone at the club and that kind of leading by example works wonders for everyone else.

Again per the Athletic, Murtagh sees things that way. “It’s important to show your mentality,” he told Salah and Wataru Endo. "Show the lads how it’s done as leaders in the group.”

Well, Salah certainly did that. It sounds as though he’s in fantastic shape heading into the season and he’ll be one of the few Premier League stars who didn’t have an intentional tournament this summer.

Liverpool will hope that works to their advantage as they attempt to get off to a quick start under Arne Slot. Without question, Salah will be integral to everything the Reds do.
