PGA Tour officially taking 2025 Genesis Invitational to this famed California golf course
The PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational has a new home for next month — it will remain in California and be played at one of tournament host Tiger Woods’s favorite hunting grounds.
The PGA Tour made official what Golfweek reported earlier this week — that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will head down I-405 from its usual home at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades to Torrey Pines (South Course) in La Jolla, near San Diego.
"As we've seen in the last two weeks, sports can be a great diversion but an even greater unifier in bringing people together for a common cause," Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a press release. "Highlighting the resilience of Los Angeles and the need for continued support for the ongoing recovery efforts is what our collective teams are working towards with the playing of the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines."
The signature event is scheduled to begin on February 13. Woods has a tremendous track record at Torrey Pines, winning eight times – seven of them at the Farmers Insurance Open and the 2008 U.S. Open. [He missed the 2021 U.S. Open there after being in a car crash earlier that year, and hasn’t played in the Farmers Insurance Open since 2020.]
The Tour is making its annual stop at Torrey Pines, which dates to 1968, this week for the Farmers Insurance Open. Having the Tour return there following the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and WM Phoenix Open should allow the Tour to take advantage of having a course already set up with everything from grandstands and corporate hospitality chalets to concessions and the ropes and allow enough time to change out the branding from Farmers to Genesis.
The Tour announced last week that the Genesis Invitational would be moved to a different venue due to the wildfires that raged in the Los Angeles area, including near Riviera CC, which avoided suffering extensive damage. Nevertheless, the Tour had no other choice but to move the event to an alternate location.
"We are grateful to the City of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the 2025 Genesis Invitational, and to everyone who has reached out in support of the tournament," said Woods, whose foundation is the primary beneficiary of the tournament and his company, TGR Live oversees running the event. "While Riviera remains the home of the Genesis Invitational, we look forward to playing on another championship-caliber golf course this year and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area."
