Peter Laviolette Impressed With Matt Rempe's Offseason Training
Matt Rempe found a way to keep himself in the news this offseason.
Between training with Georges Laraque and Chris Kreider, Matt Rempe was busy this summer, but now it’s time for training camp.
The 21-year-old is still fighting for a roster position, but Rangers coach Peter Laviolette was impressed with Rempe’s work during the offseason as it did not go unnoticed.

“He had a big impact on our team last year,” Laviolette said. “He is a young kid coming into training camp and the same thing with other people he is trying to find more. This is a young kid who works tirelessly at his craft. A more physical presence of his skating, stick handling in game and involvement, he worked out hard and that’s what you love to see.”
Rempe’s physical presence and excitement that he brought in terms of fighting was undeniable, but there were some aspects of his game that were just missing.
He needs to focus on becoming both a reliable offensive presence as well as getting more comfortable defensively in his own zone.
That will allow Rempe to gain Laviolette’s trust, hence receiving more minutes and a larger role entirely.
The young enforcer has been on record saying that he is looking to be more than just an enforcer and that’s an encouraging sign.
Rempe is beloved by Rangers’ nation, mostly for his fighting, but he knows that there is more to everything than being a fan favorite.
He’s been putting in the work, so let’s see if it all paid off.
