Pete Carroll interested in Bears head coach job
The Chicago Bears' head coaching vacancy is expected to be a hot commodity this offseason, and one former Super Bowl-winning head coach is apparently throwing his name into the ring.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has expressed interest in the Bears head coach job. Carroll, who parted ways with Seattle last offseason, would like to return to the sideline after a year off.
Carroll, 72, spent 14 years as the head coach of the Seahawks, which includes leading them to a 137-89-1 record, 10 postseason appearances and a Super Bowl XLVIII championship.
The Bears will cast a wide-ranging search for their next head coach, where they're looking for a "leader of men" and are expected to show interest in an offensive-minded candidate to help develop quarterback Caleb Williams.
Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is the rumored front runner for the job after his work with quarterback Jared Goff and the NFL's top scoring offense. Johnson is also expected to interview for Chicago's coaching vacancy, and he previously told reporters he would only interview for a job that he would take if offered.
While Johnson appears to be the favorite, Bears president Kevin Warren and general manager Ryan Poles will do their due diligence when it comes to hiring the team's next head coach. Not only is Williams' development important, but there needs to be a big culture change inside the locker room after another brutal season that consists of a current nine-game losing streak.
