Perets' Perfect Performance Lifts Bison To Road Win In Cincinnati

Yaniv Perets signed an entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in April 2023, after leading Quinnipiac University to a national title.

Since then, the 24-year-old goaltender has moved steadily up the ladder, making a couple of appearances with the NHL club over the past two seasons.

The Bloomington Bison are happy to have the 6-foot-1, 181-pound Perets tending their net, and he proved why once again Saturday night.

Perets stopped all 29 shots he faced in a 3-0 shutout in Cincinnati against the Cyclones. With the win, he improves to 6-3-1 on the season.

The Cyclones outshot Bloomington 10-5 in the opening period but neither team could muster a goal.

At the 11:45 mark of the middle frame, Maxim Barbashev got the Bison on the board off a rebound from a Carter Berger shot. It was Barbashev’s second goal of the season, assisted by Brett Budgell, who extended his point streak to eight games.

Less than three minutes later, Berger put in a wrister from the slot for his fourth goal of the season to extend the Bloomington lead to 2-0. Gavin Gould picked up the assist.

Bloomington’s final goal came in the closing minutes of the third period, after Cincy pulled goalie Jon Gilles. Eddie Matsushima scored an empty-netter for the 3-0 final.

Gilles suffered the loss for the Cyclones, saving 23 shots as his record drops to 3-5-1. Cincy outshot the Bison 29-26.

Perets made one appearance with the Hurricanes this season, stopping seven of eight shots in 8:12 of TOI Nov. 30 against the Florida Panthers. He also appeared briefly with the club last season and logged 12:46 of ice time.

The Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec native also skated with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. He went 1-2-1 with a .846 save percentage and 3.93 goals-against average for the Wolves.

Perets has also dressed in 34 ECHL games with the Norfolk Admirals, posting an 18-11-3 mark with a 2.99 GAA and .889 SP.

In 74 career NCAA games with Quinnipiac, Perets went 56-9-5 with a stellar 1.34 GAA and .935 SP. He’s a three-time ECAC regular-season champion, two-time Hobey Baker Award Finalist, two-time ECAC Goaltender of the Year and an NCAA Championship winner in 2022-23.
