Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has offered his take on whether he would be content with just the one major first-team signing this summer.

The Premier League champions have been largely quiet in their business in terms of arrivals into the Etihad Stadium this summer, with just the one first-team signing to their name confirmed ahead of the new campaign.

Adding a further dimension to their attacking system, Manchester City moved quick to secure the services of Savinho from City Football Group sister club Troyes, off the back of a stunning individual season for the Brazilian international.

The understanding in various quarters is that Etihad officials sanctioned an initial transfer fee of £21 million for the 21-year-old, with potential add-ons taking the potential total fee up to around £33.6 million.

Whilst there has been talk of further recruits coming into the squad, particularly in the midfield department, Pep Guardiola kept talk of arrivals relatively limited during a recent comment on the club’s market activity.

Speaking whilst on pre-season tour with Manchester City in the United States, the Etihad Stadium head coach was quizzed on whether he would be content with having just the one signing in his first-team squad for the 2024/25 season.

“Yeah… I love them, I like them, they proved for many years how good they are. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the market, but the squad is long enough,” the Catalan coach admitted amid ongoing concerns over personnel amongst some supporters on social media.

“If someone leaves, we’re going to talk about that,” Guardiola continued. “Of course, until the last day, we have chances [to change the squad], I don’t rule it out the option to have new players but if anyone leaves, I think 85/90/95% we will have the same squad.”

Pep Guardiola went on to say, “I feel comfortable, because the quality of human beings we have in the squad is difficult to be replaced, and the quality is there. But we’ll see, I don’t know in the last moment if someone comes for some players and they leave, we’re going to decide.”

Savinho is not expected to play any part in Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the US over the coming fortnight, but is likely to return to the City Football Academy in time to build preparations and match sharpness for the FA Community Shield against Manchester United.

The large majority of City’s first-team stars are expected to be back on duty by August 5, with the Premier League season getting underway just under two weeks later and City travelling to face Chelsea on the opening weekend at Stamford Bridge.

For the aforementioned Savinho, the Brazil international is expected to unveiled at a special signing event for supporters to attend and it remains to be seen whether he will be accompanied by any other new arrivals.
