Pep Guardiola’s brother tips Manchester City manager for sensational La Liga return
The brother of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has tipped the 53-year-old to make a sensational return to La Liga in future, but only if he becomes ‘bored’.
The legendary Catalan coach is some way off bringing an end to his time with the Premier League champions, having brought an end to long-standing speculation and doubts over his future towards the end of last month.
With Guardiola heading towards the final six months of his Manchester City contract, and having weighed up his options over several months with input from close family and those around him, a decision was taken to remain for even longer in the north-west of England.
Whilst some media reports had tipped the deal to be a 12-month extension with the option of a further year in charge, City announced in their formal confirmation of an agreement being signed that Guardiola had penned a new two-year deal.
That will take his stay at the club far beyond the decade mark, further establishing himself as the greatest manager ever to take charge of Manchester City, and undoubtedly one of the greatest ever to grace the game in its entirety.
But what could come next for Pep Guardiola in the world of club football? Is there another challenge that could await him after his hugely exhausting career with the reigning Premier League champions is over?
Speaking during a new interview with The Telegraph, the brother of Pep Guardiola has insisted that should he ever become ‘bored’ in club football, the current City boss would be welcome to coach Girona in La Liga.
“Yes, I always say, ‘The day when you get bored, you can come and coach Girona!” Pere Guardiola admitted, before clarifying, “In life, you never know but I don’t think it’s going to happen!”
He continued, “But Girona is a very good place for football. The weather is great. The region is good. The club itself has a pressure because we live 24-hour football, but the environment and the history there is not that pressure like with big clubs.
“But we are starting to have history and we are starting to put pressure because we know the level we want to reach and if we are not doing that we need to question ourselves.
“That means this environment is very nice for the lovers of football and there is always a chance for anyone to one day come to Girona and play for Girona or coach Girona. Because the environment is calm.”
However, it seems as though Pep Guardiola may have very different ideas for his future in club management beyond Manchester City following comments during a recent podcast appearance this week.
The 53-year-old admitted that his current position at the Etihad Stadium will be his final job in club football, insisting that the energy required to start again with another team is simply not there and too much to ask at this stage of his career.
Pep Guardiola did keep the door open to managing a national team set-up, and has made no secret of his desire to lead a nation out at a major tournament at some stage in the more distant future.
