Penn State RBs Nicholas Singleton, Kaytron Allen returning for 2025 season

The two combined for 2,735 yards from scrimmage and 27 TDs this season

After getting into the College Football Playoff and advancing to the semifinals, Penn State wants to run it back in 2025.

Running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen both announced on Monday that they would return to the Nittany Lions for their senior seasons. Allen led Penn State in rushing with 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns, while Singleton rushed for 1,099 yards — averaging 6.4 yards per carry — and 12 scores. Singleton also compiled 375 yards receiving with another five TDs.

"We have accomplished a lot here, and we took another big step forward this season," Singleton wrote in a post to social media. "But we know we are capable of being even better.

"We still have goals we want to reach as a team, and I want to be alongside my teammates as we reach those goals."

Penn State went 13–3 this season, losing to Ohio State and Oregon during the regular season and Notre Dame in the postseason. However, the Nittany Lions won two games in the CFP, defeating SMU and Boise State, before falling to the Irish, 27–24.

"Throughout my life, my family and support system has been critical in helping me in my football journey," Allen said in his statement on social media. "Through discussions with them, my coaches and teammates, it's clear that we still have a lot more to accomplish as a team at Penn State."

Singleton and Allen join quarterback Drew Allar, who also announced he would return to State College for another season rather than enter the NFL Draft. Like his teammates, Allar spoke of wanting to accomplish more next season.

There were some rumblings that Allar might change his mind as a likely high draft selection, but he has officially decided to return, according to The Athletic.

Edge rusher Abdul Carter, who had 10 sacks this season, will not return next year. He declared for the NFL Draft last week and could be among the top players selected. Yahoo Sports' Nate Tice and Charles McDonald have Carter ranked as the top edge rusher available in their latest mock draft.

Next season, Penn State plays Oregon and Indiana at home but has to visit Iowa and Ohio State. However, the schedule looks favorable for another strong season — especially with three of the Nittany Lions' top offensive players returning.

This is further testament to the power of NIL providing financial incentive for star college players to stay. But will a return for one more run work as well for Penn State as it did for Michigan in 2023 and Ohio State this season?
