Penn State football adds son of all-time Nittany Lion great to 2025 recruiting class

One of Penn State’s best players ever will now have a son play for the Nittany Lions.

LaVar Arrington II, the son of LaVar Arrington, committed to James Franklin and the program on Thursday.

The elder Arrington dominated at linebacker for the Nittany Lions in his career that spanned from 1997-1999 and ended with him going second overall in the 2000 NFL Draft and being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2022.

His son is a member of the 2025 recruiting class and is ranked as the No. 71 linebacker and the No. 50 player in California, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Arrington II had 65 total tackles and 12 sacks for Charter Oak High School in Covina, California, according to MaxPreps. The three-star commit is the 21st player to join the Nittany Lions’ 2025 class.

His addition keeps the group as the No. 8 class in the country and the third-best class in the Big Ten behind Ohio State and Oregon.
