Following his departure as Strasbourg manager, Patrick Vieira has emerged as one of the leading candidates to become the next coach of the USA, according to Fabrizio Romano. In an official statement, the Alsatian club announced that the former Crystal Palace manager left the BlueCo-owned club on a mutual consensus.

However, L’Équipe understand he was relieved from his duties after no longer being aligned with the club’s project and privately criticising some of the decision-making made by the club’s leaders. With the former Arsenal midfielder, now available for new managerial opportunities he could be about to head into international coaching.

There is yet to be any contact between the USMNT and Vieira but he is being considered for the vacant post following the departure of Gregg Berhalter. Romano reports that Vieira is not the only name being considered with many other candidates also on the shortlist to become the nation’s next manager.
