Did Patrick Mahomes mean to throw this touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill?

Young quarterbacks aren’t supposed to succeed against Bill Belichick.

Patrick Mahomes, of course, is not your average young quarterback.

Patrick Mahomes plays big in loss to Patriots

The Kansas City Chiefs signal caller went into Gillette Stadium Sunday and held his own in a shootout with the mighty New England Patriots.

He threw an early interception, but made a number of big plays to keep the Chiefs offense ticking in a thrilling 43-40 loss.

Did he mean to throw to Tyreek Hill?

But should we give him credit for this touchdown pass that gave the Chiefs a 33-30 lead in the fourth quarter?

Depending where your eyes are focused, it might look like a nice toss to a wide-open Tyreek Hill in the end zone. But if you follow Kareem Hunt from the snap, the play looks set up to find the Chiefs running back after he breaks through a crowd of defenders from the backfield.

He eluded linebacker Elandon Roberts and looked open for the score. But the ball sailed over his outstretched hands into the waiting arms of a diving Hill, who appeared to be in the right place at the right time.

Mahomes played coy when asked about the intended receiver after the game, claiming “a magician never reveals his secrets.”

But in the end, it doesn’t really matter. The throw still counted for six points. And there’s no shame in having a little luck on your side.
