Patrick Kane becomes youngest American-born player to reach 1,000 points

History was made Sunday night when Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane hit the 1000 point milestone in his 13th season with the team.

Kane became the 90th player in NHL history to join this club and he only needed 953 games to do it, recording 380 goals and 620 assists.

The golden marker, a secondary assist on a Brandon Saad goal, brought United Center to their feet and all of Kane’s teammates onto the ice in celebration.

Captain Jonathan Toews spoke with referees before the game to gain permission for the team to join Kane on the ice if the milestone happened, avoiding a potential two minute penalty and making for a special moment.

This is the fourth time a Blackhawks player has reached the 1000-point club. Kane is now the youngest American-born player in NHL history to hit this accolade.

Kane was boosted by a career-high 110-point season in 2018-19, and many lengthy playoff runs where he won three Stanley Cups with the team. The 31-year-old is undoubtedly on pace for an entry into the Hockey Hall of Fame upon retirement, with a trophy case overflowing with an Art Ross Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, Hart Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy, and a Calder Trophy.
