Patrick Beverley takes shot at Raptors: 'Who's the dog of that team?'

The 76ers agitator is up to his usual antics, this time taking aim at the Raptors.

Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley has made a name for himself as one of the best agitators in the NBA, and he took aim at the Toronto Raptors during a recent episode of his podcast.

Beverley suggested the Raptors lack toughness and a star that imposes fear in an opposing team.

"Who's the dog of that team?" Beverley asked his co-host. "I see [O.G.] Anunoby in a dark alley, I see [Pascal Siakam] in a dark alley I don't feel threatened. That's not disrespect for them."

While Beverley says he isn't afraid of Siakam and Anunoby, the two forwards have consistently proven be a handful to play against. Siakam is coming off a career year that saw him make his second All-Star team. The 29-year-old has been named an All-NBA player twice in his career (second team in 2019-20, third team in 2021-22).

Anunoby has developed into one of the NBA's premier defenders and earned a spot on the All-Defensive second team last season.

Toronto lost one of its vocal leaders over the summer when Fred VanVleet signed with the Houston Rockets, but new point guard Dennis Schroder figures to give the team some bite. Schroder won MVP at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and brings 10 years of NBA experience to the Raptors.

Win or lose, the native of Germany expects the Raptors to make life difficult on opponents every time they take the court.

"In basketball, you can't win every single game, but we're going in to take people's heads off," Schroder said on Oct. 19. "I mean every single game we want to play. And that's been my way."

The Raptors will have an opportunity to make Beverley eat his words early in the season when they square off with the 76ers on Saturday. That matchup will also feature former Raptors head coach Nick Nurse's return to Scotiabank Arena following his dismissal in April. Philadelphia hired Nurse in June to replace Doc Rivers.
