Patrice Evra says he isn’t worried about Erik ten Hag getting the sack at Man United
Manchester United have suffered another poor start to a season under Erik ten Hag, leading to the Dutchman coming under huge pressure regarding keeping his job at Old Trafford.
Back-to-back 0-3 home defeats in the Premier League to Liverpool and Tottenham respectively coupled with a shoddy start to their Europa League campaign have left fans disgruntled with the team’s early showings.
Calls for a change in the dugout are ringing around much of the fanbase but Ten Hag has received support from a former player this week.
In an interview with Sky Sports, club legend Patrice Evra has backed the United boss, claiming he “isn’t worried” about the manager’s future as he believes the team will enjoy a change in fortunes on the pitch soon.
“We’re going to keep saying ‘if he loses those two games, he’s going to get sacked’. But from experience, every time when he had that game, when we’re going to say ‘he’s going to get sacked’, he always wins them. So I’m not worried,” said Evra.
The former full-back added he was “positive” that Ten Hag will turn the tide but did admit the loss against Spurs was “really hard to accept”.
Evra will be hoping the team can show all their battling qualities in the next two games which now look absolutely critical for Ten Hag.
United end the week with testing looking away fixtures, particularly with the increased spotlight on the manager.
Europa League Matchday two in Porto is followed by a tricky trip to top-four league rivals Aston Villa and Ten Hag will be a lot closer to knowing his fate come Sunday evening.
A repeat of the disastrous showing at the weekend in either of the games could be enough to end the Dutchman’s reign at the club and leave United searching for yet another managerial appointment.
INEOS have handed Ten Hag time until Christmas but they will be doing their due-diligence on potential replacements as the walls continue to close in on the 54-year-old.
Ruud van Nistelrooy remains a strong option to step in if needed, while rumours linking Gareth Southgate, Simone Inzaghi and Thomas Tuchel with the Old Trafford role are also doing the rounds.
