'Path clear' for Cardinal Group to takeover Woking
Woking said the "path is now clear" for the club's takeover by the Cardinal Football Group after shareholders voted in favour of the sale at a general meeting.
Owner Drew Volpe agreed to sell the National League outfit at the start of November and said the club was "dead in the water" before US businessman Todd Johnson signed a purchase agreement to acquire a majority stake.
In their latest update it now appears to be just a matter of time before Johnson's company will be in place at the Cards.
"The club is delighted to share that following our shareholders' votes at the EGM [extraordinary general meeting] last week, the path is now clear for the transfer of shares to Cardinal Football Group LLC to complete the deal." Woking said in a statement.
"We anticipate the final paperwork will be finished this week, allowing us to officially announce Cardinal Football Group as the new majority shareholder."
Woking currently sit 18th in the National League with 21 points after 21 games.
