Report: Multiple teams 'enamored' with Raptors' Pascal Siakam

With NBA free agency underway, Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam has been the subject of various trade rumours.

According to a report by The Sacramento Bee’s Jason Anderson, the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers are among the teams “enamoured” with the possibility of bolstering their roster with the 27-year-old all-star.

Anderson reported that the Raptors have received numerous calls about Siakam and while Raptors president Masai Ujiri is “listening like a good negotiator,” it seems unlikely that a deal will be made. The report also stated Siakam, who underwent shoulder surgery in June, has no desire to leave Toronto as the team seems to be headed towards a rebuild after Kyle Lowry, the greatest Raptor of all time, left to join the Miami Heat via a sign-and-trade deal.

Speculation surrounding Siakam’s tenure in Toronto began after the Raptors drafted forward Scottie Barnes with the fourth pick in the NBA draft.

Fred VanVleet even chimed in on social media to provide his insight on the rumour.

Since entering the league in 2016, Siakam has continued to elevate his game and has earned numerous accolades such as the NBA Most Improved Player, All-NBA Second Team and an All-Star appearance in 2020, and an NBA championship in 2019.

Although he experienced some ups and downs throughout the 2020-2021 campaign, the six-year forward still averaged 21.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field.

Despite the loss, the Raptors still have their young core of Siakam, OG Anunoby, and Fred VanVleet locked in until 2024. The re-signing of Gary Trent Jr. and Khem Birch along with the potential upside of Barnes, Malachi Flynn, and Precious Achiuwa could help the team get back into playoff contention.
