Phil Kessel wasn’t the only American born hockey player who piled on Team USA’s World Cup loss to Team Canada through social media.

Josh Pauls, a forward for U.S. National Sled Hockey Team went after Team USA hard in a tweet shortly before Team Canada beat the Americans 4-2. The loss prevented Team USA from getting into the semifinal round. The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team has won three gold medals and one bronze in the event. Pauls is a two-time gold medalist.

Later in the evening Kessel tweeted a passive aggressive message towards Team USA, saying he felt like he should be doing something important outside of sitting around his house with his dog.

This American team proved highly controversial. Its personnel was considered to emphasize grit more than scoring. Its coach, John Tortorella, had struggled in recent years in the NHL and in the past was considered to favor teams that pushed for more tenacity and shot blocking than offense.

And then the way the team flamed out, being outscored 7-2 in two World Cup games, appeared to be the final straw for Team USA fans.

“I think we’re all disappointed. I feel like we let our country down, we let ourselves down,” defenseman Ryan Suter said. “It’s just disappointing. You come into this not knowing how many more chances you’re going to get and to be out after two games is extremely disappointing.”
