Panthers star Vincent Trocheck leaves on stretcher after suffering apparent leg injury
It’s a play that happens dozens of times in a game. On this occasion, it ended terribly for Florida’s Vincent Trocheck.
Late in the first period Monday against the Ottawa Senators, Trocheck was chasing after a loose puck in the attacking zone. The puck was approaching the end boards when he and Ottawa’s Ryan Dzingel began to battle for position.
Dzingel hit Trocheck as the two fought for the puck and the 25-year-old Panther ended up falling awkwardly onto his right leg.

Based on the video, it appears that all of Trocheck’s weight ended up coming down on the leg caught twisted underneath.
He was forced to leave the game on a stretcher.
Trocheck entered with three goals and 13 points in 17 games this season. He assisted on Aleksander Barkov’s power-play tally that made it 2-1 for Florida at the time.
Florida went on to win the game 7-5 and their head coach Bob Boughner provided an update on Trocheck’s injury status after the game.
An update from Coach on Trocheck’s injury:
“We don’t know the extent of the injury. We know it’s not going to be a short-term thing… He’s going to be reassessed, but he’s coming back with us to Tampa Bay and then home to South Florida.”

His injury was the second medical situation in this contest.
Following an emergency in the crowd, the remaining 3:37 of the first period were played after the first intermission.
A fan suffered a medical emergency in the stands tonight nearing the end of the first period.
The fan was treated immediately by paramedics and team medical staff on site and has been transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
