Packers S Xavier McKinney calls out Bears WR DJ Moore ahead of Sunday's matchup
The rivalry between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers goes back over 100 years, and even if one team has had the clear advantage over the other in recent matchups, there is always a little extra juice when these two historic organizations take the field against one another. That was evidenced by comments made this week by Packers safety Xavier McKinney ahead of Sunday's renewal of the rivalry.
McKinney, speaking with the Green Bay media, took aim at Bears wide receiver DJ Moore for his actions that took place two weeks earlier when he faced the Arizona Cardinals. Moore was seen walking off the field during a first-half play when quarterback Caleb Williams was scrambling and looking for an open receiver. While Moore indicated it was because he tweaked his ankle, McKinney wasn't buying it. "(Moore) is another one of those guys, same guy; play’s still going on, and you walk off the field on your offense," McKinney said via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. "You know, you take note of that. Everybody takes note of that, and we see it, and we’re going to work it accordingly." McKinney also didn't buy the injury excuse, either. "Cap. That's what I say. Cap."
Safe to say Xavier McKinney doesn't respect D.J. Moore.
"You’re supposed to be the guy and you’re just walking off the field."
Why did the Packers safety go at the Bears receiver today in locker room?

This feud didn't start two weeks ago, though. McKinney took exception to what Moore said in the offseason during an interview with Kay Adams on "Up and Adams." Moore brushed off McKinney when his name was brought up, which left the 26-year-old safety feeling a certain way. "I hope so, but I don’t give a damn about what he knows,” McKinney said when asked if Moore has a different opinion of him. “This dude walked out on… I’ve been playing [pro] football for five years now, and I’ve been watching football for longer than that, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen… You’re supposed to be the guy, and you’re just walking off the field. You’re walking off the field on a rookie quarterback that you’ve been praising, so it’s like, that’s a whole other story.”
This should make for an interesting matchup on Sunday. McKinney is having a career year during his first season with the Packers, leading the league with six interceptions while also having seven pass breakups. Moore, meanwhile, has struggled to produce consistently in Chicago's offense. He has 40 catches for 398 yards and three touchdowns, averaging just 44.2 yards per game, which is the lowest for his career.
With a new offensive coordinator calling the shots, however, perhaps we'll see some fireworks between these two players on Sunday. You can be sure, however, that McKinney has no love lost for Moore. The Bears and Packers are set to kick off Sunday at noon CT.
