Packers vs. Cowboys preview: Prediction, odds, how to watch wild-card game

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy looks to lead his current team in a win over his former team in the wild-card round.
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy looks to lead his current team in a win over his former team in the wild-card round.

The first round of the NFL playoffs this season features several "revenge game" matchups in the NFC.

In one game, quarterback Matthew Stafford will make a much-anticipated return to Detroit to face his former team in the playoffs. In another, head coach Mike McCarthy will try to lead his current team against the team with which he won a Super Bowl over a decade ago.

The No. 2 Dallas Cowboys (12-5) host the No. 7 Green Bay Packers (9-8) in Arlington on Sunday afternoon in the fourth game of this postseason.

Predictions for Packers vs. Cowboys

The Arizona Republic: Cowboys 31, Packers 20

Jeremy Cluff writes, "The Cowboys went 8-0 at AT&T Stadium this season. They were the NFL's only team to not lose at home. The Packers enter the postseason having won three in a row, but the Cowboys at home are entirely different from the Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears."

Pickswise: Take the points for the Packers

Andrew Ortenberg writes, "Green Bay is 4-5 on the road this year, but all 5 of those losses have come by 4 points or fewer, so I’m jumping at the opportunity to grab more than a touchdown."

VSiN: Lay the points for the Cowboys

Adam Burke writes, "While 7.5 may seem like a lot, keep in mind that the Cowboys didn’t play very well late in the year, losing to Buffalo and Miami while beating Detroit by one before blowing out Washington. I think this line and the fact that the 7s from early in the week disappeared is pretty telling."

ESPN: Cowboys are heavy favorites to win at home

ESPN Analytics give Dallas a 73.6% chance to advance to the Divisional Round. The same model leaves the Packers with a 26.4% chance for the road upset.
