Owen Sound Attack Pick Up First Preseason Win & Saginaw March Past The Greyhounds

We are only six days away from the start of the OHL regular season and teams are wrapping up their preseason matches this weekend.

Four teams were in action last night, Sept. 18, with the Owen Sound Attack hosting the Barrie Colts and the Saginaw Spirit taking on the Soo Greyhounds for the first time since they ousted them in the second round of the 2024 playoffs.

Below is a recap of the two games including key notes from each match.

Barrie Colts vs. Owen Sound Attack

The Barrie Colts played this preseason game without several of their best players. Tristan Bertucci, Beau Akey, Cole Beaudoin, Emil Hemming, Brad Gardiner, and Riley Patterson are all attending NHL training camps.

On the other side, Owen Sound was without their captain, Colby Barlow, Maple Leafs prospect Sam McCue, towering rugged defenseman Konnor Smith, and star netminder Carter George.

Owen Sound's veteran defenseman Taos Jordan opened the scoring halfway through the first period for his first of the preseason, followed by a tally from the Attack's 2024 third-rounder Ethan Kindree three minutes later.

Colts forward Roenick Jodoin scored his second of the preseason five minutes into the second frame to bring his team within one. However, Owen Sound responded with two goals on the powerplay (one in the second and one in the third period) from Braedyn Rogers and Landen Hookey.

Justin Handsor scored with under five minutes left to play in regulation for Barrie to make it a 4-2 game, but the damage was already done, and the Attack cruised to their first win of the preseason.

Saginaw Spirit vs. Soo Greyhounds

The last time these two teams met was on Apr. 23 in Game 7 of the second round and although it's only preseason, the Spirit spoiled Sault Ste. Marie's first chance at getting revenge.

Recently signed free agent forward Erik Muxlow opened the scoring for the Greyhounds early into the contest. Michael Misa scored the equalizer later in the first on the powerplay, his first of two in the game.

After Carson Andrew scored to make it 2-1 in favor of the Greyhounds, Saginaw took over, scoring three goals within 3:36 of each other from Kristian Epperson, Jacob Cloutier, and Misa's second of the game.

Sault Ste. Marie once again scored within the first three minutes of a period to start the third, off the stick of another newly signed free-agent forward, Sam Bowness. However, Saginaw's Nic Sima scored twice to put the game away for his team and hand the Greyhounds a 6-3 loss.
