Senators' Thomas Chabot nearly breaks NHL record for minutes played in regular season game
While some NHL games feel like marathons, Ottawa Senators defenceman Thomas Chabot played the NHL equivalent of one against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old blueliner was on the ice for more than double what some stars around the league play during Ottawa’s 4-3 overtime loss at Amalie Arena.

That’s right. For a total of 37 minutes and 56 seconds, Chabot was on the ice against one of the best offences in the league.
(And you thought the Edmonton Oilers relied on Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl too much.)
Chabot missed snapping the previous regular season time-on-ice record held by Dennis Wideman — then of the Calgary Flames — by just 10 seconds.
The most impressive part of the feat? Chabot logged all of that ice time on the second night of back-to-back games. Ottawa lost 6-1 to the Florida Panthers on Monday, a game in which Chabot was on the ice for 22 minutes and 35 seconds.
The NHL started keeping track of ice time in 1997.
Through 35 games this season, Chabot has scored three goals and 21 points.
