Ottawa Senators Sign Ullmark to Four-Year Extension

Since the day Linus Ullmark arrived in Ottawa, the Senators have been telling people they will try and begin contract extension talks with him once he and his family are all settled in.

It looks like they're all settled in.

The Senators announced on Wednesday, on the eve of their season opener, that Ullmark has signed a four year deal with the club worth $8.25 million.

The timing of the deal is interesting as it comes just days after Jeremy Swayman, Ullmark's old running mate in Boston, signed his big new contract. Swayman is younger and got double the term, but he also signed for $8.25 million AAV. So perhaps Ullmark's camp was waiting to see what's up with his old pal, using his deal as a fair comparable.

According to PuckPedia, the deal is worth $7 million in 2025-26, then $8M, $9M, and $9M. The deal includes a full no movement clause

As the winner of the 2023 Vezina Trophy, Ullmark is one of the few truly proven NHL goalies the Senators have ever acquired.

In 2020, they had hoped Matt Murray would be that guy, but he was already starting to leak oil in Pittsburgh, which opted to go in another direction. Ullmark arrives as a goalie still completely on top of his game and a likeable new veteran personality in the locker room

Ullmark, 31, will make his Senator debut on Thursday night against the Florida Panthers in Ottawa, the place he and his family will call home for at least the next five years.
