Ottawa Senators Owner Michael Andlauer Reportedly Sells OHL's Brantford Bulldogs To Edmonton Oilers Star Zach Hyman
Since taking over as the owner of the Ottawa Senators last year, Michael Andlauer has had his hands full. He's been trying to get his new NHL team back on track, on and off the ice, while continuing to run ATS Healthcare and his other high-end businesses.
So, perhaps, something had to give.
According to CHCH News in Hamilton, Andlauer is selling off his OHL team, the Brantford Bulldogs, and the buyer is Edmonton Oilers star Zach Hyman and his family.
Andlauer purchased the team in 2015, then moved them from Belleville to Hamilton and then, last year, to Brantford. Since last year's purchase of the Sens, it's safe to say his main hockey ownership focus has been on the nation's capital, squaring away the club's problems of the past, but building toward the future with a possible new NHL arena downtown.
Speaking of new arenas, CHCH also reminded us that Brantford has a $140 million plan to build a new sports and entertainment centre, which is expected to be the permanent home of the Bulldogs. Ground could break on the new rink later this year, with hopes of opening in 2027.
It's not known yet what Hyman's plans are for keeping the team in Brantford. Not for nothing, Hyman did spend three years playing junior hockey in Hamilton with the OJHL Red Wings.
The Bulldogs moved from Hamilton to Brantford for last season, embraced by a hockey community that hadn't had an OHL team since 1984 when the Brantford Alexanders – ironically enough – returned to Hamilton.
CHCH says the sale is expected to be announced after an OHL meeting on Monday, with a press conference set up for Wednesday.
