Nikita Zaitsev's agent refutes story about his client allegedly taking his kids from ex-wife

Ottawa Senators defenceman Nikita Zaitsev has allegedly taken his children from his ex-wife because he reportedly did not want to pay child support.

In a video uploaded to his ex-wife’s Instagram, it appears that Zaitsev is carrying one of his children and fleeing from the camera. His ex-wife did go to the police, according to reports.

On Nov. 22, Zaitsev was absent from the team and cited personal reasons for his departure to Russia. The defenceman has been back in Ottawa and has played six games since his leave.

His ex-wife posted the video to her Instagram with a damning caption, wondering where her children are.

According to the caption and video, Zaitsev was joined by a couple more men that forcibly took the children from their mother.

After the story began to circulate online, Dan Milstein, the player’s agent, released a statement on behalf of his client.

Zaitsev was not made available for comment after practice on Friday, but the Senators released a statement regarding the allegation.

According to the team, the NHL has been briefed on the situation. Whether or not the league decides to get involved is yet to be seen, but it appears the Senators are doing their due diligence on the accusation.

The defenceman has five seasons remaining on his seven-year, $31.5-million deal and has played 28 games for the Senators since arriving in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
