Ottawa Senators Goalie Linus Ullmark Unveils His New Mask for 2024-25
Now that Linus Ullmark is all settled in a new city with a new team, it was time to get a look at his new gear. Ullmark has traded in the black and gold colours of the Boston Bruins for the black, red and white of the Ottawa Senators, who acquired him by trade this summer and unveiled his new look Saturday on social media.
With David Gunnarsson (DaveArt) as his designer, Ullmark followed the lead of former Sens goalie Patrick Lalime, who tended goal for Ottawa from 1999-2004. Lalime's mask prominently featured the Looney Tunes cartoon character, Marvin the Martian, and now so does Ullmark's.
Family, heritage, and an homage to #Sens history. @Icebeardude's helmet is a work of art 🤩

Back in the late 90s, Lalime chose the Marvin design for fun because the character wears the helmet of Mars, the Roman God of War, which resembles the helmet on the Senators logo. The cartoon character spent most of his days on Mars unsuccessfully trying to destroy Earth with his "Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator." It was nothing personal. It was just blocking his view of Venus.
But just like Joonas Korpisalo did last season, Ullmark chose the Marvin theme as a nod to Lalime and Sens history.
"I would say Patrick Lalime, Dominik Hasek and Craig Anderson have been the top three (Senator masks) for me," Ullmark said. "I think mostly Lalime was an obvious choice."
Hopefully, Ullmark has more success with ol' Marvin on his mask than Korpisalo did last season. Korpisalo, who was traded in June in a deal for Ullmark, wore a black and white version of Marvin behind his left ear.
Ullmark has a trophy case at home filled with well over a dozen masks he's worn in the past. He says he enjoys looking at it, going through the memories, and seeing the different designs he's worn throughout his career.
Every mask is very different but there are always a few common themes on every design.
"On the back, we have my two kids in the shape of two polar bear cubs," Ullmark said. "And then it's me and my wife on the other side together, with (the design of) my home team that I grew up playing for. And those are the things that always return."
Ullmark also donned new Sens pads at practice this week, although it's not known for certain if these are what he'll wear on opening night. The set is all-white with a single, thick black stripe, bordered with red trim. At a glance, it looked like they were already well used, covered in puck marks. But it's actually a beautiful black marbling effect to create the appearance of old stone, which do make fine walls.
This is going to look real nice in front of a full house at @CdnTireCtr 🔥

So Ullmark now has some new gear to go with a new team and new city. All he needs now is a new contract.
