Ottawa Senators Take Both Pre-Season Games From the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winning 2-1 on Tuesday

After an 11-goal outburst on Sunday night, the pre-season Battle of Ontario calmed down a little on Tuesday night in Ottawa, where the Senators defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs, 2-1.

Fourth line hopeful, Zack Ostapchuk, got the game winner in the third period, while Anton Forsberg made 19 saves.

The bad news for the Senators was an injury to Ridly Greig. Greig was in the middle of the ice on a backcheck and hit the ice hard on his back when Pontus Holmberg tackled him from behind. Greig left the game and didn't return.

Cole Reinhardt, who had four points on Sunday, sorted Holmberg out with a fight early in the third.

Jake Sanderson got the other goal for the Senators.

6:29 into the first, after a suspect icing call, Toronto's Alex Steeves picked up a loose puck in a scrum and whipped it at the net. Like a fine croquet player, Steeves put in through the wickets of both Jake Sanderson and Sens goalie Anton Forsberg.

The Leafs' lead held up for almost 10 minutes until Claude Giroux found Sanderson all alone in front and he ripped a wrist shot past Leaf goalie Anthony Stolarz to tie the game

No scoring in the middle frame. Brady Tkachuk had the best chance(s) on the power play with about six minutes left. Tim Stutzle hit him all alone at the side of the net and he was robbed not once, but twice, by Leafs backup Dennis Hildeby.

Ostapchuk gave the Senators the lead after stealing the puck from Nicolas Mattinen on a forecheck. He hustled to the net and beat Hildeby with a slick backhander that stood up as the game winner.

The Senators will host Buffalo on Thursday night.
